Overview

 

 

 The Department of Ophthalmology of the Federal University of São Paulo/ Paulista School of Medicine and the Centro de Estudos Prof. Moacyr Álvaro invite you to   the 25^th Moacyr Álvaro International Symposium (SIMAsp) to be held at Frei Caneca Convention Center, in São Paulo, from February  21^st to  23^rd , 2002.

 

The theme of the Symposium will be  “Anterior Segment in the Global Era”. The purpose is to discuss in a globalized manner several aspects of Anterior Segment Disease, including Ocular Surface/Lacrimal film, External Eye Disease/Cornea, Refractive Surgery, Cataract, Glaucoma and Ancillary Exams. 
To live up to that purpose, minisymposia gathering relevant international societies and their national counterparts (Jointing Meetings) will be organized. The aim of the lectures would  be  the  latest evidence-based concepts of each subspecialty. 

 

Additional to the conferences and interactive sessions there will be Corneal transplant, Amniotic Membrane, Phacoemulsification and Refractive Surgery Wet-Labs.

 

Courses and minisymposiums on refraction/contact lens, Ocular Allergy, Administration, Surgical Instrumentation and the National Forum of Ophthalmic Teaching will be part of  the program.  Besides that, the symposium will host a special social area for former Residents, Post-graduates and fellows of the Department of Ophthalmology/UNIFESP.

Awards

 

TRANSITIONS AWARDS

 

The transitions award will be given to the ophthalmologist author of the best paper related to the theme of the SIMAsp (Anterior Segment).

The author will receive two round-trip air tickets, economic class, a compact car rental and a double room in a touristic Hotel during the American Academy Of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting, Orlando 2002.

Rules:

- The paper may not exceed 15 pages (double space, A4 sheet, margins of 2 cm and Times New Roman font/12)
- The paper must be subdivided in: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, References Abstract in Portuguese and English, Figures (Max. of 5), Tables and Graphs (Max. of 5), in this order.  The Abstract must be structured with Introduction, Purpose, Methods, Results and conclusion and not exceed 500 words.
- The references should be formatted as required by the  Arquivos Brasileiros de Oftalmologia.
- Three copies of the paper (including the figures and graphs) must be mailed by December 15^th (mailing date).
- The authors /Institution in which the paper was developed must not be identified nor the contents should indicate that information. The title of the paper, the names of the authors, their affiliation and signatures, and also the address and phone number of the first author must be sent in a sealed envelope with the title of the paper printed on it.
- The scientific commission will select the papers to the oral presentation and the others should be presented as posters. The paper must be presented by one of the authors enrolled in the symposium.  The first author must be enrolled. The award will be announced during the  25^th º SIMASP 2002.
- The prize will be given only to the first author regardless of the number of author and the presentation.
- Papers that received other award or that has been developed abroad will not be awarded.

-The scientific commission of the SIMASP 2002 will select the Transitions award panel of Judges. The decision of the Judges cannot be contested. The Judges and their relatives cannot be awarded.
- Papers not following these guidelines will be automatically rejected.  All papers will not be returned to the authors.
- The deadline will not be postponed. The papers must be mailed to: SOMA - Rua Maria Carolina, 67 - São Paulo - CEP: 01445-000.

 

 

VIDEO AWARD SIMAsp/2002

 

1. Theme:
The surgical video award SIMAsp/2002 will be given to an ophthalmologist living in Brazil selected as the best Anterior Segment surgical video (Ocular Surface, External Disease, Cornea, Cataract, Glaucoma and Refractive surgeries). The videos must be recorded in Brazil.

3. Rules:
-The color video(VHS, NTSC w/ sound) must be edited to 5 minute (max). The style of presentation is not standardized.

-Two copies of the vídeo must be mailed by January 31^st (mailing date).  The deadline will not be postponed. The papers must be mailed to: Secretaria do Centro de Estudos Moacyr E. Álvaro, Rua Botucatu, 822 - São Paulo, SP - CEP: 04023-062.

-One of the tapes should not have the names of the author or their affiliation. The other copy (to be presented during  the Symposium)must have the name of the authors and their affiliation in the beginning of the presentation.

-A separate sealed envelope should contain the name of the authors and their affiliation and their signatures. The first author must inform his/her address anf phone number. The name of the vídeo must be printed on the envelope.

-The video must be presented by one of the authors enrolled in the symposium.  The first author must be enrolled. The presentation will be held during the wet-labs.  The award will be announced during the  25^th º SIMASP 2002.
- The prize will be given only to the first author regardless of the number of author and the presentation.

- Papers that received other award or that has been developed abroad will not be awarded.

- Three members selected by the scientific commission of the SIMASP 2002 will form the panel of judges. The selection will be based on: Relevance of the video, surgical technique and presentation.

- The decision of the judges cannot be contested. The Judges and their relatives cannot be awarded.
- Videos not following these guidelines will be automatically rejected. 

- The videos will be returned at the media Desk / February 23^rd 

 

 

ANTERIOR SEGMENT PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD
25º SIMAsp/2002

 

 The Anterior segment Award will be given to the ophthalmologist or technologist author of the best picture  related to the theme of the SIMAsp (Anterior Segment). All pictures must be mailed by December 15^th 2001.

Rules:
- The picture (B/W or color) must be formatted to a max of 25 cm and a min of 20 cm of height and weidth. The picture must have a name (fee decision of the author) and the diagnosis. The name must be printed on the back of the picture.

- The authors /Institution in which the picture was taken must not be identified nor the patient´s name should be cited. The name of the picture, the name of the author/signature, the diagnosis, and also the address and phone number of the first author must be sent in a sealed envelope with the name of the picture printed on it.

- The Pictures will be exhibited during the 25^th º SIMASP 2002.  The first author must be enrolled in the symposium.

- Papers that received other award will not be awarded
- Three members selected by the scientific commission of the SIMASP 2002 will form the panel of judges. The selection will be based on their opinion and the audiebnce selection (1 vote/participant).  The participants will have a place to vote on  the exhibition área The decision of the judges cannot be contested. The Judges and their relatives cannot be awarded.

-  Pictures not following these guidelines will be automatically rejected.  Pictures will not be returned to the authors.

-The deadline will not be postponed. The papers must be mailed to: Secretaria Executiva: SOMA, Rua Atlântica, 81 São Paulo - SP, CEP: 01440-000.
